Trump: I Told Putin ‘We Can’t Have Meddling,’ I Believe Russia Meddled in 2016, Have to Hold Putin Responsible

During a portion of an interview set to air on Wednesday’s “CBS Evening News,” President Trump expressed agreement with the US intelligence community’s assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, said Putin has to be held responsible for the meddling, and he told Putin “we can’t have meddling, we can’t have any of that.”

Trump stated that he agrees with US intelligence that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, and has said so before.

When asked if he holds Putin responsible for the meddling, Trump stated, “I would, because he’s in charge of the country. Just like I consider myself to be responsible for things that happen in this country. So, certainly, as the leader of a country, you would have to hold him responsible, yes.”

Anchor Jeff Glor then asked, “What did you say to him?”

Trump responded, “Very strong on the fact that we can’t have meddling, we can’t have any of that.”
