Gabby Giffords’ Pro-Gun Control Husband Announces Senate Bid

UNITED STATES - OCTOBER 2: Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., turns to shak

Gabby Giffords’ pro-gun control husband, Mark Kelly (D), announced he will seek to run against Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) in 2020.

Kelly and Giffords formed Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS) after the December 14, 2012, attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School. They joined the push for universal background checks in the wake of that attack, although such checks would have done nothing to prevent it. The Sandy Hook attacker did not buy his guns, he stole them.

Kelly and Giffords have continued to push universal background checks in the years since, all under the guise of making Americans safer. They do not mention that the man who carried out the heinous attack against Giffords on January 8, 2011, did so with a gun he acquired via a background check.

In other words, universal background checks would not have done a thing to prevent the attack from occurring.

But Kelly plans to run for Senate. And The Hill reports that the announcement of his run comes after he and Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)–another gun control proponent–spent time discussing the ins and outs of trying to unseat a pro-Second Amendment Senator.

Breitbart News reported that Kelly failed to pass a background check to acquire a firearm in Tucson, Arizona, in February 2013. The irony of this failure is that he went in the store to prove how easy it was to pass a background check and acquire a gun.

He returned to the store with proper ID and bought a semiautomatic handgun. He also purchased an AR-15, only to have the sale refused because the store owner ascertained that Kelly could not pass the first question on ATF Form 4473, the form that would-be gun buyers must pass in order to purchase a gun at retail.
